Broncos Prepare for Pack Attack
The questions really heated up at Broncos practice on Wednesday.
State Farm or Nationwide?
Chicken Parm or Discount Double Check?
Those – of course – refer to the dueling ad campaigns of quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers.
But Sunday’s game will be about more than just advertising.
Denver’s number one ranked defense welcomes the Packers’ elite passing offense to town Sunday, and the Broncos’ defense says Rodgers’ most dangerous weapon is his mind.
“His smartness for the game, like you can’t really get no keys on him as to what they doing. so you really have to critique and break down that film,” said Broncos’ linebacker Leventee McCray.
As for Peyton Manning, he’s turning to classic film for inspiration.
“As the great Ebbie Calvin LaLoosh said in Bull Durham, ‘I sure like winning – you know – it’s better than losing,” said Manning.
Leading up to Sunday night’s game a lot has been made about the Manning/Rodgers matchup, but it’s likely going to be the other guys – both offensively and defensively – that will decide this game.
“Other guys” like C.J Anderson, who says controlling the clock could be the key to victory.
“It’s kind of like back in the day when people tried to keep the ball away from 18,” said Anderson. “It’s gonna work both ways. Aaron Rodgers is one of those guys in this league, and he knows that, but if we can keep him off the field that’s great.”
Head coach Gary Kubiak knows a win on Sunday will take a total team effort, and at the end of the day they all have Manning’s back.
“They believe in him,” said Kubiak. “They know he’s the leader of this football team and they’re also smart enough to know the things he’s done that have a lot to do with why we’re 6-0.”
