PPCC cancels alert about Centennial Campus threat, calls alert a ‘misunderstanding’

Pikes Peak Community College students received an alert about a threat to the Centennial Campus at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The college sent a follow up message at 2:35 p.m. saying that the alert had been canceled based on new information.

The original alert said a student had made a threat of violence against the campus, near I-25 and South Academy Boulevard on the south end of Colorado Springs.

The alert identified the student and included two surveillance images of him. KRDO NewsChannel 13 has removed his name and picture from the article because the college is now calling this incident a misunderstanding and said the student didn’t do anything wrong.

Authorities said they contacted the student and other witnesses, and determined there was no real threat. The specific reason behind the initial threat belief remains unclear.

The student will not face disciplinary action, authorities said.

Several students said they’re familiar with the student in question and don’t believe he could really make a violent threat.

A spokesperson for Pikes Peak Community College said the alert was sent to all faculty and staff, and to students who are signed up to receive alerts from the school.
