Monument girl gives back, wanting to help others after being victim of Waldo Canyon Fire

The Waldo Canyon Fire hit Southern Colorado more than three years ago, but for thousands, the memory is still fresh.

For 9-year-old Corinne Watne, who was evacuated from her Mountain Shadows home in 2012, this is the case.

Now, she’s making it her mission to give to others who are going through a traumatic experience because she understands how it is to be on the other side. Watne and her friends are tying blankets for those in need.

“I lost all my toys, and some kids gave me some toys back. They gave me a smile and now I want to give kids a smile at the Children’s Hospital,” Corinne explained.

“She realized that feeling inside of giving back to other kids kind of healed her,” said her mother, Valerie.

Corinne’s goal is to make 20 blankets to give away by December 1st. If you’d like to help, contact gvwatne@gmail.com.
