Public input wanted ahead of sinkhole repair project

The City of Colorado Springs says they have four options to repair the Chestnut Street bridge over Douglas Creek, but want public input before proceeding.

The options range from two different boxed culverts to an arched culvert or free span bridge.

Workers estimate it will take $2 million to repair the bridge. It will be funded by the Pikes Peak Transportation Authority.

“We have other structures that are about in the same condition. We had a large event, we had a failure,” said Aaron Egbert with the City of Colorado Springs.

The sinkhole on Chestnut Street formed in August, the city said the cause was heavy rains that passed through the region.
