Cameras capture special moments as Fort Carson soldiers come home

There were hugs and tears across southern Colorado Tuesday as deployed Fort Carson soldiers returned home after months away from their families.

Venetucci Elementary student Logan Duree got a special surprise Tuesday afternoon. His mom was recording with her cell phone when Logan’s dad, SSG William Duree, walked into his classroom. His tears made it clear that Logan had no idea his dad, who he hadn’t seen in eight months, was finally home.

Another special caught on camera moment happened at the second of two homecoming ceremonies Tuesday. The video shows a little girl, overwhelmed with excitement, run across the special events center floor to give her dad a hug even before the ceremony was over. Dad gave his little girl a big hug and then shooed her back to the other side of the room.
