One person killed in I-25 crash
One person is dead and two others hurt in a crash on I-25 in Colorado Springs Monday night.
State Patrol said it happened near the I-25 and Interquest Parkway exit in the southbound lanes around 7 p.m. Monday.
The vehicle went off the left side of the interstate, hit a guardrail, and flipped at least once.
While the car was rolling, a woman sitting in the backseat was thrown from the vehicle.
The woman, identified as 20-year-old Marissa Ramirez of Lilburn, Georgia, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The two men in the front, 24-year-old Armando Escobar and 27-year-old Terence Barker Jr. of Colorado Springs, were taken to a hospital, but troopers said their injuries did not appear serious.
Troopers are investigating why the car left the road.
“Drugs and alcohol do not seem to be a factor and we are investigating whether or not the woman who sustained fatal injuries was wearing a seatbelt,” Sgt. Jason Jones with Colorado State Patrol said.
Sgt. Jones said the driver is likely to face charges when the investigation is complete.
Troopers said the car traveled several hundred feet in the crash, and because it is such a large scene, they will continue investigating Tuesday morning.
The southbound lanes of I-25 reopened after most of them were closed for about three hours.
