Teen from Colorado Springs survives Oregon college shooting
A teen from Colorado Springs survived the deadly campus shooting at a community college in Oregon.
Quincy Harding Jr. had just began his first week of school at Umpqua Community College. He is a sophomore and plays for the basketball team.
Harding was on campus when the shooting happened. He says he could hear gunfire coming from the building next door.
“Oh, it was like a movie, you know. It was just so fast and unexpected, you wouldn’t expect that in a little town like that,” he said.
The Harrison High School graduate says he was 100 feet away from the shooter.
“I actually couldn’t even answer the phone because the police had us detained in a classroom, and it was like a good hour-and-a-half before I could get on the phone with my dad. I was like really freaking out and stuff,” he said.
Harding’s father tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that he’s thankful his son is safe and is on his way back home to Colorado Springs to spend time with his family.
