Man accused of targeting military personnel to steal equipment

The Colorado Springs Police Department says it set up a sting to take down a man who has been stealing military equipment since August.

Police first identified the pattern of someone targeting military personnel to steal equipment from in August.

During the investigation, police say Kenneth Dawson was identified as a suspect.

At around 2 a.m. Friday (10/2/15), police say they learned that Dawson was in the 4200 block of Sanders View, which is near E. Fountain Blvd. and S. Powers Blvd.

Detectives went to the area and set up surveillance. They say they caught Dawson in the act of committing another burglary and moved in to arrest him.

Police say Dawson committed two burglaries early Friday morning. The stolen property from those two cases was returned to its owners.

Dawson will be charged with twelve counts of burglary, police said.
