Group of Monument residents seeks to intervene in civil suit
“No Methadone in Monument” has filed a motion to intervene in a methadone clinic’s lawsuit against the town of Monument.
The group announced to dozens of residents Wednesday night in a public meeting they want to be named interveners, in an effort to prevent the town from settling and allowing a clinic next to a school and a park in town.
“The worst case scenario is the methadone clinic is allowed to open and everyone’s worst fears are realized,” said Scott Mikulecky, an attorney for the group. “The town trustees, their job is to look out for the town and that’s their sole focus. Our group’s focus is what’s best for the individual citizens.”
The town has told residents in previous meetings that they would not settle in the case.
Mikulecky said the clinic would not open until all legal proceedings end, which could take months, if not years.
One woman, Jamie Findley, has already filed a motion to intervene after she filed the initial appeal to the Monument Board of Adjusters last summer.
“The more data that comes in about CMG specifically, the more frightening it is,” she said, referring to Colonial Management Group, the company which would own the clinic. “We’re not going to back down. We’re going to fight for the community.”
The group hopes to raise $40,000 additionally to cover additional legal expenses due to this move.
CMG did not return requests for an interview.
