Dog seized after video of man tossing pet goes viral finds new home

Update:

Levi went home with his new Family Thursday afternoon.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said a family agreed to adopt Levi through its Choice Hold program, which you can read about here.

The arrangements were made earlier this week, but Levi couldn’t go home until Thursday because he needed to be neutered.

Original Report:

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region says a man faces an animal cruelty charge for a caught on camera incident in Colorado Springs.

Video that was posted and shared on Facebook showed a man, identified by the humane society as Seth Steinbecker, grabbing and tossing a dog. It’s unclear why.

The dog, named Levi, was not hurt.

The woman who took the video tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that she saw the incident unfolding as she drove past an apartment complex in the 100 block of S. Academy Blvd. and knew she had to do something, so she stopped to record the evidence.

“It was pretty disturbing, I did a double take. I saw this dog floating through the air,” she said. “He kicked the puppy, threw it several times and smacked it.”

Hundreds of people have commented about the video on social media and some dog owners were talking about it miles away at Bear Creek Dog Park.

“It’s horrifying, it’s really sickening, some people just shouldn’t have dogs,” said dog owner Hanna Cook.

Steinbecker agreed to turn Levi over to Animal Law Enforcement. The charge he is facing is a misdemeanor.
