Families displaced by fire in Manitou Springs shop

A fire in the basement of a Manitou Springs shop late Wednesday night displaced two families.

The fire started in the basement of The 10 Spot. Lt.Steve Schopper with Manitou Springs Fire Department said firefighters do not know what started the fire and the shop owner’s insurance company would be investigating. Schoppersaid it appeared accidental.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 8 p.m. Firefighters were able to get control of the fire in 20 minutes.

A portion of Manitou Avenue was closed between Pawnee and Canon avenues while crews contained the fire.

Schopper said firefighters were concerned that the fire could quickly spread because the shop is connected with every shop along the block.

The two families displaced from the fire planned to stay with friends and family.
