Springs streets crews treat arterials with liquid de-icer ahead of storm
The City of Colorado Springs says its plow crews have been on full call out since Saturday and will remain on full call out until the weather clears.
Workers with the Streets Division spent Wednesday pre-treating several main arterials with liquid de-icer. Famously treacherous hills on Fillmore St., Austin Bluffs Parkway and Academy Blvd. were among the roads treated.
The city says the pavement is relatively warm, which means the snow is likely to melt when it hits the road surfaces before freezing later on tonight. It says pre-treating the streets with de-icer causes liquid to freeze at lower temperature which gives the crews more time to work on the roads.
