Side streets buried in snow in Colorado Springs neighborhood

Four-wheel drive is a must in the Broadmoor Bluffs neighborhood.

Residential streets in that area are buried under about a foot of snow and a thick layer of ice.

Tammy McQuitty says they never saw a plow after the storm last weekend in Colorado Springs.

“I think this is worse than I’ve seen,” McQuitty told KRDO NewsChannel 13. “Every time it snows, cars drive over it, it pats it down, it melts, it freezes, it snows again and it’s just continuing to build over and over and over again.”

McQuitty said she called the city twice, but no plows were sent to her neighborhood.

“When people can’t get out of their driveways or out of their streets, you’ve got to do something,” McQuitty said. “Bestway Disposal came up and actually even they got stuck.”

The Colorado Springs Streets Division told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that with more snow this week, the priority is clearing the main roads.

“We cover almost 200 square miles,” said Corey Farkas with the streets division. “So it takes us time to get to all of our roadways that we need to get to.”

After six inches of snow, city crews will plow residential streets. A streets manager encouraged residents to report if their street is hit hard and told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that crews would check out the Broadmoor Bluffs neighborhood.
