Snow continues to make roads treacherous
The snow made a big effort to stick around Monday and continued to make roads treacherous for drivers.
The sun came out in the early afternoon and temperatures started to rise. Conditions on the roads started to improve.
Colorado Springs City Streets Division Corey Farkas said Monday afternoon was his team’s chance to get make big improvements.
“Sometimes Mother Nature just wins. And the thing is about road operations, they are very much like a tide, they ebb and flow. And when the tide is coming in, you do your best to stay afloat. And when it goes back out, that’s when you play catch up,” said Farkas.
When asked how Farkas would grade the city’s performance during the storm, he said it was tough question.
“That’s a tough one to answer, it was really like David and Goliath, we were getting reports of 1.5 inches per hour in some areas. We have 40 plows covering 200 square miles so we keep up as best we can at that point,” said Farkas.
Farkas said this storm was different.
“With a storm of this size, you’re never going to get ahead of it until you get a break,” said Farkas.
Plows are trying to get the roads in as best shape as they can before more snow moves in Wednesday.
