Third dog shot in Colorado Springs, one man offering reward
Three dogs were shot at Colorado Springs parks within a month and now one man is offering a reward.
The first was shot at Penstemon Park, near the 1000 block of Jetwing Cir. The second was shot along Shooks Run Trail and the third dog was found in the 1400 block of Colorado Ave.
Terry Shattuck has always had a pet.
“I went 18 years with no pet after I had a cat for 23 years,” said Shattuck, founder of So Much For Pets, a pet advocacy group founded three years ago. “Then I got talked into getting another dog. And I love that dog so dang much, in fact, she’s in the other room right now.”
Shattuck’s group donates supplies and money to different groups during disasters.
But a string of shot animals in Colorado Springs got to him.
“She just sort of reinforced how I was feeling,” he said.
Shattuck took to Facebook, posting a photo of one of the dogs who survived.
He offered a $1,000 reward.
“I’ve been receiving calls from other people that they’d like to add to that reward. My initial reward has been added to about $3,000,” he said.
Police say the shootings happened at three different parks across Colorado Springs. They do not have a specific suspect in mind, which is why Shattuck hopes his efforts will end this.
“I’ve never heard of such a thing. There have been other dogs shot, but generally they had the appearance of being an accident,” Shattuck said.
So Shattuck hopes his work will make the parks safer for man’s best friend.
“If it were my dog, especially the one where it died, I just can’t imagine,” he said. “It would be beyond devastating.”
