No penalty for marijuana election violations
An independent investigator has ruled that marijuana advocates violated the Fort Collins’ election code during their 2012 campaign to repeal a municipal ban on medical marijuana businesses.
The investigation also revealed that the city is powerless to require disclosure of the groups behind attempts to influence the outcome of local elections and there will be no penalties.
According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, City Councilman Wade Troxell filed a campaign finance complaint accusing pro-marijuana political committees Sensible Colorado and the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol of violating municipal election codes by failing to register with the Fort Collins City Clerk’s Office as political committees. Both organizations were registered with the state.
