2 blind pedestrians struck, injured in Greeley

Police say two blind pedestrians were injured when they were struck by a pickup while crossing a street in Greeley, apparently against traffic signals.

The Greeley Tribune reported Wednesday witnesses told investigators the pedestrians might have mistaken audible traffic signals and thought it was safe to cross.

The collision occurred Monday night.

Investigators say one pedestrian was hospitalized with an external head injury and possible internal injuries. Police say the injuries aren’t life-threatening but will require surgery.

The other pedestrian was treated for scrapes and bruises and released.

Both are students at the University of Northern Colorado.

The driver had a green light and has not been charged, but police say they’re still investigating. The driver agreed to a routine blood test for drugs and alcohol.
