Florence PD: Woman hit by train Friday morning
Florence police are investigating an incident in which a woman was hit by a train early Friday morning.
Police were called around 3 a.m. to the area of W Main St and Church St, and found a 50-year-old woman in serious condition. The woman was flown to Parkview Hospital in Pueblo before being transferred to a hospital in Denver. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Florence Police Chief Mike DeLaurentis said the woman suffered injuries to her lower body after she was hit.
“It’s traumatic, even for the officers, first thing that comes to your mind is are they trapped under the train, and how bad it is going to be,” he said
Neighbors around the area say the woman was walking across the tracks when the train hit her.
Mike Vendetti said there have been close calls before.
“The crossing lights here, when the rain happened crossing lights were flashing on and off, people will come up and pretty soon they play crossing roulette assuming the train is not coming and off they go,” he said.
The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
