Divide man gets 27 years for grandson’s kidnapping

A 73-year-old Divide man who participated in the kidnapping of his grandson has been sentenced to 27 years in prison.

The Longmont Times-Call reports Ronald Turner was sentenced Tuesday. He was convicted in April of kidnapping, assault and other counts for helping his son, Monty Turner, kidnap then-3-year-old Luke Turner – Monty’s son – from his mother’s Longmont home May 25, 2013. Monty Turner and the boy were found in Canada the next day, and Ronald Turner was arrested in Missouri that same evening.

Prosecutors say Monty Turner forced his way into his estranged wife’s home, attacked her with pepper spray and a stun gun and took the boy. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges including kidnapping, burglary and violating custody and protection orders.
