Storms slam eastern Colorado
Authorities say a powerful storm that moved through eastern Colorado downed powerlines, trees and destroyed a barn in the Lincoln County town of Hugo.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Capt. Clint Tweden says they aren’t sure if it was a tornado that caused the damage late Wednesday night.
He tells The Associated Press that strong winds ‘pretty much leveled’ a barn, tore up numerous trees and branches and knocked down powerlines, although power is working to most homes.
He says a semi truck overturned in a likely weather-related accident and left two people with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, hail broke some windows in the town of Genoa.
The National Weather Service had issued tornado warnings for parts of Lincoln, Cheyenne and Kit Carson counties. Most warnings had expired but it remained in effect for parts of Cheyenne until 1:15.
