Man shot by Fremont County sheriff’s detective identified

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has released information about a man who was shot by one of its deputies as well as the deputy who was involved.

The shooting happened at Pathfinder Regional Park west of Florence on the evening of Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

Sheriff’s Detective Michael Miller is on paid administrative leave after shooting Michael Alan Stringer, 23, of Canon City.

The sheriff’s office says Miller spotted a vehicle that had been involved in an earlier incident in Florence.

The deputy tried to make contact with Stringer, who was in the vehicle.

Investigators say Stringer and the deputy started fighting and that’s what led to the shooting.

Stringer was flown to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says he is in stable condition.

Miller has been with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office since 2005.
