Woman hit by vehicle in Pueblo

A woman is in critical condition at a Denver hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Pueblo Monday (5/26/14) night.

Pueblo Police said Rebecca Russell, 44, was walking with two friends near Red Creek Springs Road and Oakcrest around 9 p.m. Monday.

That is when a vehicle driven by Jereme Durfee, 36 hit Russell, police said.

Russell was airlifted to a hospital in Denver. She suffered several fractures to her face and injuries to her lower body, police said.

The road was dimly lit and police said Russell and her two friends had been drinking and wore dark clothing. The driver’s speed likely was not a factor, police said. But an investigation is underway.

Pueblo Police said auto-pedestrian crashes are becoming too common in the city. In the past two years, police said six people have been killed in crashes.
