AFA graduation: Expect road closures and heavy traffic

Wednesday (5/28/14) is graduation day at the United States Air Force Academy and that’s going to mean some travel headaches in Colorado Springs.

The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. and is scheduled to wrap up at 12:30 p.m.

Traffic will be unusually heavy around The Academy before and after the ceremony as people arrive and leave.

Vice President Joe Biden will deliver the commencement speech. Police say there will be unspecified, short-term road closures as he is transported to and from The Academy.

Police say the heaviest graduation-related traffic impact should occur between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.

The Thunderbirds will be participating in the graduation and are scheduled to perform from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Police warn drivers not to stop on the side I-25 or other major roads to watch the demonstration.
