Pueblo City Council approves certain types of marijuana businesses

Some forms of retail marijuana businesses will be able to open in Pueblo beginning this summer.

Pueblo City Council voted 5-2 to allow marijuana growing, manufacturing and testing businesses to open inside the city for the first time.

This vote does not extend to retail sales of marijuana but that doesn’t mean the demand won’t be high for the other businesses.

City staff members tell KRDO that they field 2-3 calls a day asking about those other businesses in particular growing. Much of the marijuana grown in Pueblo is expected to be shipped north on I-25 and sold in Denver as that city is running out of large warehouse space for marijuana growing.

The City Attorney and staff is still working on how much fees and licensing will cost applicants.

Pueblo will begin accepting applications on July 1st.

The moratorium on retail marijuana sales doesn’t expire until November 30th.
