Fort Carson soldiers home for Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day will be extra special for the Fort Carson soldiers who just came home in time for the holiday.
About 40 soldiers from the 984 th Military Police Company and 759th Military Police Battalion returned to the Mountain Post Saturday night (5/10/14).
They waited for this moment for nine months.
“How you feeling?” asked daughter Staff Sgt. Bethany Waters as she hugged her mom.
“I’m okay. Better now!” said her mom, Debbie Waters.
Staff Sgt. Waters has been in Afghanistan since august 2013. Her mom Debbie didn’t think her daughter would be home for mother’s day.
“This is the best ever. This is the best. I mean it was like really? Was not expecting that and to get that news was great,” said Debbie Waters.
Staff Sgt. Waters has been in the Army since 2005. So she’s used to missing out on many Mother’s Days.
“Definitely glad that we got back in time. Kind of weren’t sure for a while. Happy to be here for her,” she said.
About 40 families welcomed home their loved ones to celebrate their moms. The soldiers made their moms proud. Two of them were promoted Saturday night: Sgt. Ty Skarloken and Sgt. Joseph Cruddock.
Sometimes the best gifts mom can get are the simplest ones.
“I need to buy shampoo. It’ll be my Mother’s Day gift being clean,” joked Staff Sgt. Waters
“Yeah, that’ll be nice. I’ll loan you some,” said her mom.
Mom said, we’re just glad to have her home. Glad all of them are home and safe. “We probably embarrass her to death sometimes, but what’s a mom to do?” said Debbie Waters.
There will be another homecoming Monday (5/12/14). About 30 soldiers will return around 7:15 p.m. The homecoming will be at the Special Events Center. The troops are also returning from tours in Afghanistan.
