Lawmakers OK tax aid for Colorado disaster victims

Colorado lawmakers reached a last-minute agreement on a bill to forgive property taxes for residents affected by massive flooding and wildfires last year.

The House gave final approval to the bill Wednesday evening, sending it to the governor.

The measure was the first bill introduced in the House this year, and the last one that was approved during the 2014 legislative session.

The plan seemed in limbo before Wednesday as lawmakers struggled to get consensus on how much tax aid the state should pay for.

Senators had amended the bill so the state would pay for only the time after the property was destroyed. But the House wanted the state to pay for the full year.

In the end, the House plan won out.
