Rumors, Safe2Tell call prompt middle school lockdowns
Two middle schools in Falcon D-49 were locked down Thursday (5/1/14).
Modified lockdowns were ordered for Horizon Middle School and Falcon Middle School at around 11 a.m.
Rumors of an unspecified threat that were circulating around the halls of Horizon prompted the lockdown there.
The nearly simultaneous lockdown at Falcon Middle School was the result of a tip that was received by Safe2Tell.
Investigations and thorough security sweeps were conducted at both schools.
The lockdowns were lifted after investigators determined that there was no credible threat on either campus.
Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were stationed at each school for the remainder of the day as a precaution.
Falcon Middle School and Horizon Middle School also cancelled outdoor activities for the remainder of the school day. After school activities will continue as scheduled.
D-49 says it had planned to test its emergency notification systems at 11 a.m. That test was cancelled because of the lockdowns.
