Nova Scotia farmers offer tourist stays
Would you pay to stay on a farm for your next vacation?
Some farmers in Nova Scotia are banking on farm tourism to bring in cash. It’s all part of a farm experience Nova Scotia farmers are hoping to sell to tourists.
But agriculture laws will have to change for farm-stays to become reality. Many county by-laws don’t allow farmers to use land for accommodations. The province is working to change that and allow farmers to bring in extra money.
The accommodations would vary from a cabin to a gypsy caravan or a yurt. The whole experience would cost between 75 and 100 dollars a night.
About 40 farmers have expressed interest in offering farm-stays. Several have already started.
