Man charged in Denver boy’s hit-and-run death

A man accused in the hit-and-run death of an 11-year-old boy in Denver has been charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

The charges filed Thursday allege that 21-year-old Oswaldo Lopez of Aurora struck Michael Espinoza as he crossed Federal Boulevard on Sunday night.

Police said his license plate and pieces of his car were found on the street where the fifth-grader was hit.

Lopez allegedly told investigators that he was racing at the time. A police report says he was driving at 60 mph.

He doesn’t have an attorney listed in court records.
