Experts offer tips for keeping your trees rooted to the ground during high winds

The City of Colorado Springs is asking you to maintain your trees before the next wind storm causes more damage.

A tree fell onto a power line near I-25 and Lake Avenue. The high winds knocked out power to more than 1,000 customers.

Jennifer Folaron likes the trees in her yard, but they have to come down because they’re damaged.

“We’ll be removing 70 foot, really nice trees, so for the next storm we don’t have any additional damage,” she said.

Business was booming for Chase Louis.

His tree service company responded to more than 50 calls since Saturday.

He has tips for people who have trees.

“Prune trees every two to three years and keep the deadwood out of them,” Louis said.

If people don’t maintain their trees, Louis said there will be consequences.

“The more deadwood there is, the more weight there is, and it can wipe out a whole power line if it falls,” he said.

Even though damaged trees are good for business, Louis wants people to listen to his warning.
