Wind knocks down trees, damages homes in Colorado Springs

People living in Colorado Springs woke up to wind damage today.

Hurricane force gusts as high as 80 mph caused problems for people in the Springs.

Wind tore art work in downtown Colorado Springs.

There were several reports of fallen trees throughout the city.

Near Cheyenne Mountain Middle School three trees fell over, one of them damaging a house near the intersection of Cheyenne Boulevard and O’Malley Place. Another tree pulled up the pavement on the sidewalk.

Three trees hit Scott Harder’s house.

He has to find a place to live until the damage is repaired.

“We will probably be out of (our house) for a couple days until the power is restored,” he said.

There was also damage at the apartment complex Lamplight Square at The Park off of Academy Boulevard. A car port fell over, landing on a Chevy Camaro.

The strong winds caused more than 40 power outages, according to Colorado Springs Utilities.

The city’s division of forestry responded to 28 calls of fallen trees.
