The Colorado Springs Fire Department said neighbors saw the fire on the balcony of a unit on the second floor and called 911. The family living in the unit was woken up by neighbors.

The Red Cross is helping the two displaced families find a place to live.

One of the families includes three adults, two dogs and a bird. The other family has two adults, one child and two dogs.
