A threatening text message had several police officers at Fountain Middle School

There is a bigger police presence at a middle school in Fountain today.

The Fountain- Fort Carson School District says a Fountain Middle School student sent threatening text messages to other students.

The School District notified parents immediately when it learned about the texts.

Michelle Mantei considered not bringing her two kids to school today.

“If anything happens to them, I would be terrified,” she said.

But when she arrived to Fountain Middle School, she felt relief.

“The police are already out roaming around, so I feel safe for them now,” Mantei said.

This isn’t the only incident to happen in the School District. Last week, Fountain-Fort Carson High School received a threat over social media.

Fountain Police Deputy Chief Bill Elder said his officers don’t take any threats lightly.
“We add security inside the building. We then assign extra patrol units to rings the school to provide extra security,” he said.

Even though police are protecting her children’s school, Mantei has a Plan B, just in case.

“I’ll have my cell phone next to me while I’m at work, if anything happens, I will be down there to get them,” she said.

Elder says the student who sent the threatening text messages is suspended for 10 days.
