GOP tries again to repeal ammo magazine limits
Republicans are making another attempt to repeal limits on the size of ammunition magazines that Democrats passed last year in response to mass shootings in Colorado and Connecticut.
Republicans already failed once to repeal the new law when House Democrats rejected a proposal to do so earlier this week. The law prohibits the sale of magazines that hold more than 15 rounds.
Democrats say the purpose of the law is to minimize damage from mass shooters who use larger magazines to inflict the most harm in a short amount of time. But Republicans say the law restricts the rights or law-abiding citizens and doesn’t stop criminals who are intent on doing harm.
A Senate committee hears the latest repeal attempt Wednesday afternoon. Democrats have the votes to reject the bill.
