Berthoud to ask for county help on law enforcement
Berthoud’s board of trustees is recommending that the town contract police services from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office for the next two years because of a scandal involving a former officer and police chief.
According to the Loveland Reporter-Herald, proposals discussed Tuesday are not final because the town is still seeking financing.
Last October, Berthoud police officer Jeremy Yachik was arrested on child abuse charges after video surfaced of Yachik allegedly beating his daughter. Berthoud Police Chief Glenn Johnson was accused of covering up the incident.
Not long after his arrest, Yachik was fired by the town of Berthoud. Johnson resigned amid his allegations in mid-December. Yachik has denied the allegations.
