EPA chief visiting Fort Collins climate hub

The head of the Environmental Protection Agency and White House officials are visiting Fort Collins, one of seven regional climate hubs designated by the Obama administration last week.

EPA administrator Gina McCarthy will join Fort Collins Mayor Karen Weitkunat Tuesday on a tour of projects to restore the Poudre River and help it withstand extreme weather.

McCarthy and the other two officials, Nancy Sutleyr of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and David Agnew, director of the White House’s intergovernmental affairs office, will hold a press conference at the Natural Resources Research Center, home of the new climate hub.

The hub is charged with assessing local climate risks, including drought and wildfire, and developing plans for dealing with them, including improved irrigation techniques.
