City for Champions plans series of public meetings

The city of Colorado Springs and El Paso County will host a series of public meetings to provide information about the proposed City for Champions project.

One meeting will be held every month. The first is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will be held at the Regional Development Center, 2880 International Circle, in Colorado Springs.

Mayor Steve Bach, City Council President Keith King, El Paso County Commissioners Amy Lathen and Dennis Hisey and representatives from each of the four City for Champions projects will be present to discuss the projects, finance plans, timelines and milestones necessary to meet the requirements to receive Regional Tourism Act funding from the state.

“This is an opportunity for citizens to learn firsthand about these great projects and get the facts,” says Mayor Bach. El Paso County Commissioner Amy Lathen adds, “There is a lot of misinformation out there so these meetings will be structured to give residents a better understanding of how these proposed projects can be built with no increase in taxes as well as their potential as economic drivers, opening up new business opportunities that will provide jobs for generations to come.”

City for Champions will provide its initial progress report to the state Economic Development Commission onMarch 18.
