New tribute to those who served our country

A small community is pushing forward to build a big honor for fallen heroes in the San Luis Valley. Groundbreaking is set for June 14th for the Faith Hinkley Veteran’s Memorial Park in Monte Vista.

23 year old Faith Hinkley is a Monte Vista native who was killed after a rocket propelled grenade attack in Baghdad in 2010. Annavee Hinkley is Faith’s Mother. She is proud that her community is honoring her daughter and others who paid with the lives in service to our country, “I’m very proud that she was not afraid of going into the army and possibly sacrificing herself.”

The Memorial Park will be located near Bill Metz Elementary. One of the organizers of this park is Bob Bryning. He told me that this is a project that is long overdue, “We have folks who go back a long time and have been killed in action and haven’t been acknowledged.”

So far, 30 thousand of the 330 thousand needed has been raised. Bob Bryning is hopeful you will call him at 719-850-1994 to learn more about the project and donate to it.
