Former Calhan teacher sentenced for sexually abusing student

A former Calhan School teacher who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a student was sentenced in an El Paso County courtroom Tuesday (12/10/13).

Amanda Rowles, 28, was sentenced to 45 days in jail and 10-years-to-life sex offender intensive supervised parole. She will have to register as a sex offender and is not allowed to be near anyone under the age of 18.

Rowles was originally accused of pursuing sex with two 17-year-old boys while she was working as a teacher in Calhan. She had left the Calhan district by the time she was arrested by police in Aurora.

Rowles pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a child by one in a position of trust on October 8, 2013. The Colorado Springs Gazette reported on October 9, 2013 that all counts related to the second boy were dismissed as part of her plea deal.
