Generous birthday wish: girl gives to Children’s Hospital Colorado

A Colorado Springs girl turns eight December 28. For her birthday, she has a generous wish.

Jordan Lewis wants to give gifts instead of receiving them this year. Those gifts will be going to children spending the holidays in the hospital.

“Most seven-year-olds want tons of gifts,” said mom Jamie Lewis.

But this year, Jordan wants something else.

“I wasn’t expecting my daughter to come to me and tell me that she wanted to give gifts to the children at the hospital instead of receiving gifts herself,” said Lewis.

Since the beginning of November, Jordan and her family have been collecting toys and donations for Children’s Hospital Colorado at Memorial Central. They’ve even created a Facebook page making her eighth birthday wish bigger than little Jordan herself.

“Definitely a proud mommy moment,” said Lewis.

You might ask why sweet Jordan is being so generous this year. Jordan spent a couple days at Children’s Hospital Colorado last year during the holidays.

“I felt a little bit scared when I went there, but then I felt a little bit better because I got Barbies and dolls,” said Jordan.

Her hope is by giving toys to other kids at Children’s Hospital they too, will feel better.

“Because the kids that don’t get to be with their families or they are sick, they feel special,” said Jordan.

“She’s very caring and thinks of everyone else before herself. She’s definitely a leader. Any way she can help out she can,” said Lewis.

Children’s Hospital Colorado couldn’t be happier to have Jordan’s help.

“If Colorado Springs continues to have people like Jordan in the wings waiting to be that next generation, we’re in a pretty good spot,” said Children’s Hospital Colorado at Memorial Central Regional Vice President Greg Raymond.

“She’s just a special little girl,” said Lewis.

Special enough to know the greatest feeling can come from giving.

“Makes me feel happy,” said Jordan.

The Lewis family is collecting toys and donations through the week of Christmas. They will give those gifts to the children at the hospital on Christmas Eve.

If you’d like to donate, you can go to the Facebook page.Jordan is also hosting a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse off Powers on Thursday December 5 from 4-10 p.m. 10 percent of the sales goes to Jordan’s fundraiser.
