Schriever Airmen killed in highway 94 crash identified

Two Schriever Air Force Base airmen who were killed in a crash on highway 94 have been identified.

They were Airman 1st Class Edward Yu and Airman 1st Class Abtron (Tron) O’Neal. They were assigned to the 3rd Space Operations Squadron.

“We want to express our heartfelt condolences to Airman Yu and Airman O’Neal’s families and friends, as well as the 3rd Space Operations Squadron family,” said Col. William Liquori, 50th Space Wing commander. “This is a sad day for the Schriever family. The Air Force appreciates their service and commitment to our country. We will continue to provide assistance to their families. Edward and Tron will be missed.”

The crash happened at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

According to Colorado Springs Police, the two menwere ridingin a blue Scion headed east when their car veered into the westbound lane.

Springs Police said the driver tried to avoid a red couch in the road and hit a pickup truck driving in the westbound lane.

Police told us the unidentified man in the pick up truck is a Colorado Springs city worker. They say he was on his way to work at the time of the accident. He suffered a broken leg.
