Pipeline blamed for spill at former uranium plant
The Colorado health department says a ruptured pipeline caused contaminated water to spill from the defunct Cotter Corp. uranium mill near Canon City.
According to the Canon City Daily Record, radioactive materials monitor Jennifer Opila said Thursday the cause of the Nov. 5 spill was a joint in the pipeline system that broke, causing a major spill.
None of the contamination escaped the property and company officials say the on-site collection system worked as designed.
