Nicole Leth helping push healthy habits

Nicole Leth is “Fueling the Future.” It’s a program she created to help children learn healthy habits to last a lifetime. Nicole started it in Europe to be similar to a program for soldiers to stay healthy and physically fit. She told me, “The hope being is that the soldier hears the message about good nutrition at work and physical activity and the student hears that message at school and brings it home to their family. It will create stronger healthier military families.”

Nicole was at Patriot Elementary pushing the healthy habits which include good nutrition and exercise. Her husband, LTC Alan Leth was there with some soldiers from the Eighth Infantry, Third Brigade helping the kids with exercise at school. LTC Leth told me, “We are having a real good time with the kids and promoting a healthy lifestyle.”

Nicole Leth says it’s exciting to watch the kids really get psyched about nutrition and exercise, “It’s amazing to see the differences with the children. They tell me what they ate, their fruits and vegetables, show me their lunch and tell me about the exercises that they have done.” Nicole remembers a little girl in Europe who was really involved in her program. The child had brain cancer and the steroids she was taking made her gain some weight, “She told me at the end of our program that year how much weight she actually lost and that she felt so much better and her cancer was doing better. She said you are my hero and that’s a great moment.”

Nicole Leth’s volunteer and can do spirit to get others motivated is why she is our Wear Red Friday Hero.
