Plane goes down in Atlantic Ocean

The Coast Guard says it has located the wreckage of a Learjet that plunged into the Atlantic ocean off the Florida coast while en route to Mexico and that at least two people have died. They are continuing to search for two others who were aboard.

The Coast Guard said in a news release late Tuesday (11/19/13) that a boat crew located the wreckage approximately 2 miles northeast of Fort Lauderdale International Airport, the plane’s departure point.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said in an email that the Mexican-registered Learjet 35 was en route to Cozumel, Mexico, with four people on board, including two pilots. She says the plane went down about 8:15 p.m.
