Local gas stations serve up gas below $3
Local gas stations served up gas below $3 per gallon to drivers Tuesday, despite experts’ predictions in September that drivers would not longer see prices that low.
Nationwide, the average price per gallon is $3.208.The average price in Colorado is $3.127.Colorado Springs’ average price pergallonwas $3.078 Tuesday. Gasbuddy.com does not calculate average prices for Pueblo.
In September, gas prices hit a new milestone. The average price stayed above $3 per gallon for 1,000 consecutive days.
“Paying less than $3 per gallon for gasoline may be automotive history for most Americans, like using eight-track tapes or going to a drive-in movie,” said Bob Darbelnet, President and CEO of AAA in a press release from the company on Sept. 16.
Shawn Walker was glad to see prices below $3.00, but he wishes they could be even cheaper.
“I was born in the ’70s so used to seeing gas underneath a dollar for a long time,” said Walker. “Why does gas keep going up and up? That’s ridiculous.”
Darian Quashie said prices at the pump take a lot of his monthly budget. Gas prices change his driving habits.
“We aren’t always going to have low gas prices so I want to save as much gas as I can so if there is a place I can walk within a reasonable distance, I would walk instead,” said Quashie.
Quashie said he’d be willing to drive out of his way to fill up at a cheaper pump.
“If there is enough gas in my car to do it,” said Quashie.
Jeff Harris said he was happy to see low prices, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t have a huge impact on his driving habits.
“In the end, I don’t have any control over the gas prices. I am enjoying them, the lower gas prices right now, getting a little more bang for my buck. It’s the lowest I’ve seen it in a long time, which is fantastic,” said Harris.
