Colorado Springs reacts to the word of the year

The word “selfie” was named Oxford Dictionaries’ 2013 word of the year.

Its official definition is “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website,” according to Oxford Dictionaries.

The dictionary publishers said the word first appeared in the early 2000s, but its usage has grown. They said the decision was unanimous with little if any argument.
