U.S. 24 reopens after short closure Tuesday

The Colorado State Patrol reopened U.S. 24 near Manitou Springs on Tuesday evening after shutting it down for a short time because of flood concerns.

The highway was closed from Cave of the Winds to Cascade, but was reopened just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

There were no reports of flooding or mudslides in Ute Pass. However, authorities wanted to take precautions after previous floods — including one on Friday that led to the death of John Collins, 53, of Teller County.
