Grandmother sentenced to 8 years in child’s death

An Adams County judge has sentenced Becky Trujillo to eight years in prison for her role in the death of her grandson.

Gabriel Trujillo died last year after he was found unresponsive in Becky Trujillo’s home in Commerce City.

The Denver Post reports relatives tried to report the alleged abuse just a week earlier to Adams County child welfare, but were told to call authorities, who were unable to find any abuse.

Becky Trujillo was acquitted of first-degree murder June 7, but was convicted of negligent child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

The grandmother told investigators the boy had fallen from a chair at the dining room table and hit his head on the floor.
