Construction crew hits gas line forcing closure of major thoroughfare
The Colorado Springs Fire Department says Union Boulevard is closed between Academy Boulevard and Ranch Lane because of a broken gas line.
The fire department says a construction crew hit the line around 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 2.
The Colorado Springs Traffic Management Center says that traffic is being detoured north on Ranch Lane and then east on Montebello Drive.
The broken gas line has been repaired, but it will take a couple more hours to get the street repaved and the road reopened.
Colorado Springs Utilities says Union will remain closed through the evening commute.
