Man threatens to poison himself after sex verdict

A man convicted of a child sex offense after a five-day trial in Colorado Springs has been released from a hospital after he claimed he poisoned himself while the guilty verdicts were being read by a judge.

El Paso County authorities say Todd Eckley began chugging from a bottle of ice tea and on his way out of the courtroom, staffers quoted him as saying he would be dead in 10 minutes.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette , Eckley was treated at Memorial Hospital on Monday and taken to the El Paso County jail, where he remained in custody. Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jeff Kramer said Wednesday he is not sure if any poison was discovered.
